Why WordPress uses hashed passwords
WordPress never stores your actual password — only a one-way hash of it, made with the same
phpass-based algorithm this tool uses. That is why resetting a password directly in phpMyAdmin needs a
proper hash: pasting plain text into the user_pass column will not work as a login.
This is most useful when the normal "lost password" email is not available — for example on a local development copy of a site, or while restoring a database backup.
